Dhaka
Bangladesh Police has filed complaints alleging sacrilege in three temples. The minority Hindu community in Bangladesh has demonstrated in Lalmonirhat district demanding the arrest of criminals involved in alleged sacrilege. The border of this district is with India. Raw ‘beef’ packed in polythene was hung on the doors of three Hindu temples and a house in Gendukuri village in the early hours of Friday in Hatibandh upazila of Lalmonirhat district, the Daily Star newspaper reported on Sunday.

Four complaints were lodged at Hatibandh police station on Friday night in connection with the incident, the paper said. On Saturday, members of the local Hindu community protested at the Sri Sri Radha Govinda temple in the village, demanding the arrest of the culprits involved in the incident. Dilip Kumar Singh, head of Hatibandh Upazila Puja Udjapan Parishad, said the locals informed the police about the incident, who visited the spot.

“The police have assured us that the culprits will be arrested,” Singh said. He said the incident could be related to the local union council elections held on December 26. Hatibandh police station in-charge Irshad-ul-Alam said that they are investigating the incident. The newspaper quoted him as saying that no one involved would be spared.
