A woman believed to be the world’s oldest living person has celebrated her 119th birthday. Ken is congratulating Tanaka on completing 118 years of life in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. Her family members say that she was born on January 2, 1903, 11 years before the start of the First World War. Tanaka is expected to live to the age of 120. She currently lives in a nursing home in Fukuoka. Due to old age, she is now unable to speak, so she talks to the nursing home staff only through gestures.

According to a report in The Japan Times, Tanaka likes chocolate and fizzy drinks. She likes to play numbers game to pass the time. The Russo-Japanese War began only a year after Tanaka’s birth. Tanaka’s childhood was spent in the last years of Japan’s Meiji era, which is considered a transformative period of modernization. In 2019, when she was 116 years old, she was recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest person in the world.

In 2020, she became the oldest person in Japan at the age of 117 years and 261 days. According to the Guinness World Records website, Tanaka married her cousin in 1922 at the age of 19. The couple ran a noodles shop, where they made dishes like rice cakes and udon. Her husband and eldest son took part in the Second Sino-Japanese War that began in 1937. At the age of 90, Tanaka had a cataract operation. He also underwent surgery for colorectal cancer at the age of 103.

The Times reported last year that as of 2020, Tanaka had five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her 62-year-old grandson, Eiji, told the Japan Times that I hope she continues to be healthy and enjoys everyday fun as she ages. Earlier some people claimed to be older than Tanaka. Last month, China’s oldest person, also known as the oldest person ever, died at the age of 135. Last summer a woman in Turkey also claimed to have celebrated her 119th birthday.
