Anil Menon of Indian origin was born in Ukraine. He is posted as a lieutenant colonel in the US Air Force. He was the first SpaceX flight surgeon to form a medical organization during NASA’s SpaceX Demo-2 mission. Dr Menon already has experience working with NASA as a flight surgeon. Anil Menon, 45, is a practicing Emergency Medicine Physician.

According to his NASA profile, Menon was among the first in line to help during the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the 2015 Nepal earthquake and the 2011 Reno Air Show crash. He received a bachelor’s degree in neurobiology from Harvard University in 1999 and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University in 2004. In 2009, he graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from Stanford Medical School.

He was deployed to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. He also worked for the Himalayan Rescue Association to look after the climbers on Mount Everest. Menon later transferred to the 173rd Fighter Wing for military duty and later worked in Aerospace Medicine as a residency. As a pilot he has logged over 1,000 hours. His wife Anna Menon works at SpaceX and they have two children.

10 astronauts aged 30 to 40
NASA on Monday selected 10 new astronauts, half of whom are military pilots. NASA introduced six men and four women during a ceremony in Houston.
